Silence And Space
On the parts of games where nothing happens
A journal that declines to measure its own readers is at least being consistent about something.
This site is a small set of static documents. It has no accounts, no comments, no newsletter, no search and no forms, which eliminates nearly every circumstance in which a website would want information about the person reading it.
No analytics script. No advertising or measurement tag. No cookies set by these pages. No fonts, scripts, images or styles loaded from any other domain. Nothing is collected, so nothing is stored, shared or sold.
There is no statistics package installed here, no tag manager, no page-view beacon and no session recording. We do not know which essays are read or how far anyone scrolls, and given what this journal spends its time arguing about, an appetite for that kind of data would be difficult to defend.
These pages set no cookies. The small amount of script on the site does three things: it prints the current year in the footer, it opens the navigation on narrow screens, and it animates the measure bars when they scroll into view. None of that writes to or reads from your browser's storage.
Every stylesheet, script, photograph, illustration and icon on this site is served from this domain. There is no content delivery network in front of the pages, no font service, no embedded video, no social widget and no comment platform. No third party is contacted when you open a page, so no third party learns that you did.
Any host that serves files receives requests for them, and those requests are ordinarily written to a log containing an address, a timestamp and a filename. That is how the web works rather than a decision this journal has taken. We do not read those logs, analyse them or connect them to anything.
The essays link only to other pages on this site. Nothing here follows a reader anywhere, and there are no outbound tracking parameters attached to any link.
Nothing here is directed at children, and nothing here collects information from any reader of any age. There is no mechanism through which a visitor could submit anything to this site even if they wished to.
If this site ever gained a feature requiring information from readers — which is not planned and would be contrary to how the journal is run — this page would be rewritten before that feature appeared rather than afterwards. What you are reading describes the site exactly as it stands.
Because nothing personal is collected, there is nothing held about you here to access, correct, export or delete. That is the intended state and we expect it to remain the case.
